Overview Of Babcock University (BU)
BABCOCK UNIVERSITY (BU) was founded on September 17, 1959, under the name Adventist College of West Africa (ACWA). In order to train church workers from the West African subregion, the Seventh-day Adventist Church established ACWA as a senior college. Only seven ministerial students were enrolled when it first opened.
When the first group of Bachelor of Arts degree holders graduated under the name of the Church in 1966, enrollment had grown to include students studying Business Administration as future accountants both inside and outside the Church, as well as two-year pre-nursing students preparing to pursue a nursing career at the Church’s School of Nursing in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
In 1975, ACWA became the first institution in Nigeria to sign and operate an affiliation agreement with Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan, USA, which allowed it to award Bachelor of Arts degrees from Andrews University in Biology, Business Administration, History, Religion, and Secretarial Studies.
